How the WASB Can Help The WASB's success depends upon effective advocacy by school board members. The legislative services staff offers a variety of resources to assist you in advocating for the needs of your district. The Legislative eNewsletter is delivered via e-mail each Friday with special mid-week bulletins sent out for important developments. The eNewsletter provides highlights of the week's legislative activities, action alerts and links to proposed law and rule changes. The eNewsletter keeps board members and administrators informed about the latest developments in Madison and Washington, D.C. and makes contacting state and federal lawmakers easy. The Legislative Action Network (LAN) is a venue for greater involvement in legislative work by school board members. LAN members receive special alerts and notices, and are called upon to provide testimony and help organize local meetings with legislators. The Legislative page on the WASB Web site is updated regularly and provides e-mail links to legislators and other resources. The School Board Connection provides updates of legislative activity to every board member each month. The WASB Day at the Capitol offers school board members and administrators an opportunity at the beginning of each biennial legislative session to visit Madison, hear directly from legislative leaders and meet with individual legislators. The annual Legislative Issues Conference provides an opportunity to hear from key state legislators and experts on important education issues, and offer recommendations in setting the direction of the WASB legislative agenda. The State Education Convention annually features the governor and special issues sessions on hot legislative topics. The National School Boards Association Federal Relations Network annual conference includes in-depth training on federal education issues, guest speakers, networking opportunities with board members from around the country and most importantly, the opportunity to meet with Wisconsin's congressional delegation on Capitol Hill. A member of the legislative services staff will attend local meetings at your request to explain new proposals and provide updates on legislative activity.
