'Betting on Our Ultimate Success'

LeVar Burton
Actor, Director, Producer, Writer and
Former Host of PBS Reading Rainbow

LeVar Burton has been capturing the admiring attention of both audiences and his industry peers for three decades, and continues to enjoy a longevity truly rare within the industry. His first professional audition led to his being cast as Kunta Kinte in the acclaimed mini-series, Roots. What followed were starring roles in a string of television movies.

LeVar Burton hosted and was executive producer of the highly acclaimed PBS children's television series Reading Rainbow for 25 years. While taking great pride in the series role that garnered him 13 Emmy Awards, five NAACP Awards and numerous nominations, he continues to be most proud of Reading Rainbow's ability to "use the medium of television to help create generations of Americans who are passionate readers." He will leave us with a positive message at Friday's General Session.

Having both appeared in and directed a plethora of Star Trek incarnations over the years (The Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine, and Enterprise), LeVar adamantly adheres to his optimistic point of view of the future saying, "I'm betting on our ultimate success at rising to our highest level of human expression."

Today, Levar Burton focuses his energy behind the camera as a successful film and television director. His latest project is the independent feature film, Reach for Me, to be released sometime in 2008.
