Forward Brass is comprised of five of Madison Wisconsin’s finest brass musicians. Together,
the ensemble has performed for a wide array of events ranging from the annual State
Superintendent of Public Instruction Address held in the Rotunda of the Wisconsin State Capital
to the Festival de Música de Santa Catarina located in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil. Forward Brass
explores classical, jazz, and contemporary repertoire to provide great entertainment in all
settings.
Forward Brass shares its name with the Wisconsin State Motto, reflecting the ensemble’s drive
to be a national musical leader and to share their passion for music advocacy throughout the state
of Wisconsin. Each of its members travels to schools across the Midwest, coaching young
musicians and giving master-classes. Performers in Forward Brass have successful teaching
studios; their students have gone on to achieve national and statewide recognition participating in
programs such as the Interlochen Music Academy and the Wisconsin School Music Association
Honors Project.
Before convening in Madison, the members of Forward Brass studied with some of the world’s
most acclaimed teachers and performers from Northwestern University, The Juilliard School,
The New England Conservatory of Music, and the University of Wisconsin- Madison. You can
hear Forward Brass musicians in many other ensembles including the Wisconsin Chamber
Orchestra, Madison Symphony Orchestra, Madison Jazz Orchestra, and the UW-Whitewater
Faculty Brass Quintet.
