Student Music Performances
Following a statewide call for auditions to all choir, band, and orchestra ensembles across Wisconsin, auditions were reviewed and three finalist groups were selected to perform at the Wisconsin State Education Convention's General Sessions. Through a program coordinated jointly by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards and the Wisconsin School Music Association, a fine group of student performers will appear at the convention.
This year’s featured performers are:
FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL WIND ENSEMBLE, Franklin Public Schools

Under the direction of Scott D. Julius, the group will perform at the opening General Session
on Wednesday morning, Jan. 21.
CHIPPEWA FALLS WIRE CHOIR, Chippewa Falls
School District

Under the direction of Molly Nordin, the group will perform at the General Session on
Thursday afternoon, Jan. 22.
TREMPER HIGH SCHOOL CHORAL, Kenosha Unified School District

Under the direction of Polly Amborn, the group will perform at the General Session on
Friday morning, Jan. 23.
Already working hard to prepare a short program, these talented groups of students are sure to entertain.
The music groups' expenses are underwritten by the Wisconsin Association of School Business Officials (WASBO) Foundation through the annual Charity Walk for Kids at the WASBO Foundation Spring Conference and Exhibits.

VALUE AND PROTECTING OUR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT: CONNECTING ART & SCIENCE
This land is our land now and we will leave it for future citizens to enjoy. Our beautiful environment—land, forests, flowers, birds, animals, insects, and species of all kinds, need to be protected, preserved and valued. Animals such as cougars, wolves, bears and turkeys are now spreading throughout Wisconsin. Can we live side-by-side with these animals in peace and harmony? We all know pollutants abound in our man-made world. Our lakes, rivers, oceans, forests and land are being greatly challenged. Artists throughout the ages have used the environment as a source of inspiration and visual message. Now it is your turn. How can you encourage others to value and protect our natural environment through the visual images you produce?
This was the problem posed to middle and high school art students across the state in a program coordinated jointly by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards and the Wisconsin Art Education Association. Come to the third floor, outside the Exhibit Hall, to view the results of their work. The art exhibit will be on display all day on Wednesday and Thursday, January 21-22. The top selected artist will be honored at the convention during the General Session on Wednesday morning.
Awards to the top 10 selected artists are made available through the generosity of Wausau Insurance Companies.

Write and Illustrate Your Own Picture Book Contest
WASB proudly sponsors its annual Write and Illustrate Your Own Picture Book Contest for Wisconsin’s K-12 public school students. Entries for the 2009 contest will be accepted with postmarks through June 1, 2009.
The goals of the contest are to encourage an appreciation and love for writing while helping students develop an understanding of the fundamental aspects of publishing books. The program recognizes outstanding achievement by young authors in seven divisions, with State-wide winners recognized at the WASB’s fall regional meetings.
