In 1971 WASB's first executive director George Tipler initiated the formation of the Wisconsin School Attorneys Association to assist and facilitate the exchange of information among attorneys practicing school law in the State of Wisconsin. Membership is on an individual basis and limited to individual attorneys serving as legal counsel for members of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards.
The association currently has approximately 130 members and is governed by a seven member board of directors. Membership privileges include individual subscriptions to a variety of resources including the Wisconsin Expulsion Digest, the Guide to Non-Renewing Teaching Contracts, subscriptions to the Wisconsin School News, Policy Perspectives, the School Employee Relations Review, Connection, and the WSAA Notes, which is a concise monthly mailing containing a variety of printed materials and resources of special interest to school attorneys. WSAA members are also entitled to a special discounted dues level for the Education Law Association. This discounted rate is available when paying the ELA dues at the same time as the WSAA dues. If you qualify and are interested in being a member of the Wisconsin School Attorneys Association please complete and mail the WSAA Application Form with payment to the WSAA, 122 West Washington Avenue, Suite 400, Madison WI 53703.
The Wisconsin Association of School Boards and the Wisconsin School Attorneys Association co-sponsor an annual School Law Seminar traditionally held in October. The School Law Seminar has been one of the most popular seminars offered to school officials because of the timely and informative presentations on key legal issues. The program is planned and developed each year by WSAA members who know firsthand which current and emerging legal issues school officials will likely face next.
