In 1971, the WASB’s first executive director, George Tipler, initiated the formation of the Wisconsin School Attorneys Association to assist and facilitate the exchange of information among attorneys practicing school law in the State of Wisconsin. Membership is on an individual basis and limited to individual attorneys serving as legal counsel for members of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards.

The association currently has approximately 90 members and is governed by a seven member board of directors. Membership privileges include individual access to a variety of resources including the Wisconsin Expulsion Digest, the Guide to Non-Renewing Teaching Contracts, the WSAA Notes, as well as access to a limited number of resources and publications produced by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (such as a subscription to the Wisconsin School News magazine). WSAA Notes are concise monthly electronic mailings that list a variety of materials and resources of special interest to school attorneys.

Any attorney representing a public school district member of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) is invited to join the Wisconsin School Attorneys Association (WSAA). Please complete the WSAA Application Form and send it along with payment to the WASB Madison office (122 West Washington Avenue, Suite 400, Madison WI 53703).

The Wisconsin Association of School Boards and the Wisconsin School Attorneys Association co-sponsor an annual School Law Seminar traditionally held in February. The School Law Seminar has been one of the most popular seminars offered to school officials because of the timely and informative presentations on key legal issues. The program is planned and developed each year by WSAA members who know firsthand which current and emerging legal issues school officials will likely face next.
