1,000 year ban on energy efficiency revenue limit exemption upheld by Supreme Court

by | Jul 10, 2020 | Legislative Update Blog, State Issue

Former Gov. Scott Walker’s veto in the 2017-19 state budget that changed a one year moratorium of the school district energy efficiency revenue limit exemption to a 1,000 year moratorium was upheld by the Wisconsin Supreme Court.  Essentially, the Court said the challenge to the veto was brought too late rather than ruling on the constitutionality of the veto itself.  See the full decision here.

In a separate decision, the Court struck down three partial vetoes by Gov. Evers in the 2019-21 state budget including one that eliminated a grant program for school buses, replacing it with funding for electric vehicle charging stations and to replace municipal buses.
