UPDATE: WASB Testimony on AB 459

The Assembly Committee on State Affairs, chaired by Rep. Rob Swearingen (R-Rhinelander), held a public hearing to take testimony on Assembly Bill 459, incorporating cursive writing into the state model English language arts standards and requiring cursive writing instruction in elementary grades.

The WASB opposes this bill based on our resolution opposing unfunded mandates and supporting local school board control of curricular decisions.

Why is this bill in the state affairs committee as opposed to the education committee? The Assembly has a rule about committees not hearing bills authored by the chair  of the committee and this bill is authored by state Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt, chair of the education committee.
