Advocating Effectively With Legislators
The economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is making it increasingly likely legislators will need to act on a state budget repair bill later this summer or early this fall. Their actions will impact 2020-21 school budgets. Rough estimates suggest a $2-3 billion state revenue shortfall will have to be addressed. State school aid, which accounts for roughly one third of the state’s budget, could face devastating cuts. School leaders need to be prepared to advocate effectively to minimize the harm to schools and student learning from potential drastic cuts in state aid and revenue limits.
This online workshop is designed to help you develop relationships with lawmakers and their staff that will make you better, more effective legislative advocates for your students and your schools. It will prepare you to communicate about the serious challenges our state and our public schools face in the months ahead.
Wednesday, Aug. 12 and Thursday, Aug 13 (Thursday, Aug. 13 has been cancelled.)
